by Timothy J. Dailey

Homosexual marriage is an empty pretense that lacks the fundamental sexual complementariness of male and female. And like all counterfeits, it cheapens and degrades the real thing. Let the APA Know Abortion Harms Women

Last week the American Psychological Association (APA) released a heavily biased report with a sweeping pro-abortion conclusion based upon one solitary study -- to the detriment of American women's health. In recklessly dismissing a body of scientific research which establishes the negative mental health effects associated with abortion, the APA has shown itself to be blind to the scientific evidence and callous towards the well-being of women.

The APA needs to hear from you that a new, more-scientifically based report is needed.

Legislative Activity

PEPFAR: The President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief passed in the House and will come to a vote in the Senate sometime in the next several weeks. The discussion centers on the reauthorization of money, as funding for this huge international health initiative expires at the end of 2008. FRC has supported PEPFAR to reduce the transmission and devastation of HIV/AIDS in the most affected countries. FRC supported the carefully negotiated prevention provision that requires a third to be spent for "abstinence-until-marriage" and "be-faithful" programs. These programs help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS by helping reduce multiple partners and encouraging individuals to abstain from risky behavior until marriage. FRC is also concerned that HIV/AIDS money not be diverted and used for funding abortion.

GENETIC INFORMATION NON-DISCRIMINATION ACT: President Bush signed a bill into law that protects families so that discrimination does not occur based on genetic information obtained from their unborn child or from a child being considered for adoption. The measure bars employers and health insurers from discriminating against individuals on the basis of their own or their family members' genetic information. Health insurance companies are prohibited from basing enrollment or premium decisions on the results of genetic tests, and employers can't rely on them for making hiring, assignment or promotion decisions.

WAR SUPPLEMENTAL: The War Supplemental passed in the Senate. The bill includes a provision to encourage cheaper contraception as well as Plan B for university health centers and non-governmental family planning centers like Planned Parenthood. The bill will now go to the House.

Make Your Voice Heard

Just as your vote is critical to an election outcome, your opinion is high priority with your elected officials. After all, these officials clearly understand that you, the voter, hold the power to hire or fire them. So, email, call or write a letter to your elected representatives regarding the issues that matter most to you and your family. Make your voice heard in protecting your family and your freedoms.

State & Local

The State and Local Shop is headed by Sr. Director Cynthia Hill and operates under the Government Affairs department. It promotes pro-family legislation in conjunction with state family policy councils (FPCs) and a myriad of pro-family individuals and organizations located across the nation. The shop also develops and expands key networking relationships. The resultant unique mix of legislators, media, donors and the grassroots, along with the FPCs, facilitates a multi-pronged approach for the restoration of the national culture to one that is both supportive of healthy family life and the greater public good.
